Bulldogs top the field at Olney Invitational


The Sparta boys cross country team continues to impress despite being without their top runner, Wade Reeves because of an injury.
The Bulldogs won the 20-plus team Olney Invitational Saturday.
Sparta finished with 129 points followed by Mt. Zion (141), Robinson (151), Charleston (154), Salem (191), Lawrenceville (206), Breese Mater Dei (210) and Mt. Vernon (217) to round out the top eight teams.
The Bulldogs were paced by Jon Hill (15th), Wes Bradshaw (16th), Trevor Morgan (28th), Adam White (35th) and Dustin Neff (38th).
The Lady Bulldogs finished in fourth place with 133 points. Freeburg won the team race with 54 points followed by Mt. Vernon (59), Breese Mater Dei (111), Sparta, Altamont (164), Centralia (190)  and Mt. Zion (197) to round out the top seven teams.
Sparta was led by Aleigh Eggemeyer (eighth), Melyssa Bradshaw (16th), Kristina Wilson (17th), Kortney Stefani (39th) and Jackie Robinson (53rd).
The Sparta boys have risen to number seven in the statewide polls, and the girls have reached number nine.
