The Chester Yellow Jackets cross country team opened up their fall 2009 season Monday afternoon at Anna Jonesboro.
The boys squad defeated the Wildcats by 15 points as Chester’s low team score was 19 compared to Anna-Jonesboro at 34.
The Jackets claimed the four of the first five places as Devin Valleroy won the race with a time of 19:11 followed by Chad Koenegstein (third place 20:27), Brant McMillan (fourth place 21:19) and Link Cushman (fifth place 21:25). Chester’s other top runner was Brent Knop (sixth place 21:26).
The Lady Jackets also claimed four of the top five places in their race as Anna-Jonesboro did not have enough participants for a team score.
The Chester girls were led by Taylor Yankey (first place 24:00), Laura Liefer (third place 24:31), Hanna Knop (fourth place 25:10), Emily Reid (fifth place 25:47), and Jillian Yankey (seventh place 28:52).
Chester will next run at the Columbia Relays Wednesday and then host a meet at the Randolph County Lake Thursday.
