Chester sweeps Black Diamond Conference cross country titles ... 10/14/10


The Chester cross country team swept team titles in its first Black Diamond Conference meet held Thursday at Dolan Lake in McLeansboro.
The Lady Jackets finished with 19 points to win the team title followed by Hamilton County (46) and Eldorado (85). Seniors Jillian Yankey and Laura Liefer took first and second place respectively, while sophomore Taylor Yankey finished fourth. Emily Reid took fifth for Chester and Hanna Knop finished seventh.
On the boys side, Chester finished with 43 points to win the team championship followed by Carmi-White County (49), Hamilton County (61) and Eldorado (63).
Devin Valleroy finished second with a time of 16:09 and Link Cushman finished fifth with a time of 16:43.
Also for Chester, Kyle Landon took seventh and Jonas Hoffman finished 12th, Zach Sternberg finished 17th to round out the team’s scoring.
“Our goals late in the season are to advance the girls team out of the regionals into the sectional meet and to advance the boys team out of the sectional meet to state,” said Chester first-year coach Scott Haxton. “I am proud of the effort and determination this group has demonstrated so far this year. I am confident that they are capable of achieving these goals.”
The cross country teams will compete at the Chester Regional Saturday, October 23 at 10 a.m. at the Randolph County Lake.
