The Chester Lady Jacket volleyball team opened up the season Saturday in the Southern Illinois River to River Conference Tournament hosted by Murphysboro High School.
The Lady Jackets finished the tournament 0-3 after falling to Benton 24-26, 25-11 and 15-7, Nashville 25-20 and 25-22, and Harrisburg 25-17, 27-29 and 15-10.
The conference tournament used to be held at the end of the regular season, but was changed this year to be held at the beginning.
Against Benton, Devon Hecht led Chester with three kills and two blocks, while Tiffani Marshall added two kills, three blocks, two assists and one dig, Jamie Chambers tossed in nine points, four assists and two aces, and Shelly Lyons had 10 digs, six points and one assist.
Against Nashville, Marshall led the squad with four kills, four blocks, one dig and two assists. Hecht added five blocks and one assists, while Lyons added two kills, three points, one assist, six digs and an ace, and Megan Marcinkowska had nine points, three digs and one ace.
In their final match of tournament play against Harrisburg, Chester was paced by Marcinkowska (12 points, one ace and a dig), Hecht (three kills and five blocks), Marshall (six blocks and three assists), Megan Atchison (seven points, two aces, three assists and a dig), Shelby Long (eight points, one ace and six digs).
The Lady Jackets will next participate in the Marissa-New Athens Labor Day Tournament beginning September 1.
