Sparta knocks off Steeleville in prep volleyball action

The Sparta Lady Bulldogs downed Steeleville in two set match winning 25-21, 25-17.  Behind the big hitting of senior middle hitter Erica Gallois and her five blocks and 16 kills, the Bulldogs improve their overall record to 4-6.
“We really did a nice job of taking care of business late,” said Sparta coach Roger Gerlach. “We came out firing in set one and really set the pace, but fell behind in set two and really had to battle to get back into it late.”
Julian Sroka finished off the second game with eight consecutive service points with the score being tied at 17 to pull away for the win.  Rachel Peck added eight kills while setter Emma Koester contributed with 19 assists.
“I thought going into this game we were going to give Sparta a run for their money,” said Steeleville coach Amy Brown. “The first game we let them go on a 6-0 run.  We finally pulled it together and got within two points, but couldn't finish it.  The second game we started out strong with an 8-2 lead, but Sparta is a good team and we couldn't shake them.  Mechanically we played ok, but we didn't play well mentally.  We played without heart or enthusiasm and that hurt us."
The Lady Warriors were led by Jessie Husband (six points, eight digs and 11 assists), Danielle Landmann (five points), Jessica Troue (six kills and four blocks), and Brooke Rees (six kills and four blocks).
Steeleville fell to 4-3 overall with the loss.
