Lady Bulldogs roll past Anna-Jonesboro

Sparta improved to 2-0 in conference play with a 25-15, 25-22 win over Anna-Jonesboro Thursday night.
The Lady Bulldogs jumped to an early lead in set one and after Anna-Jonesboro pulled to within 16-11, the Bulldogs pulled away for the 10-point win.
In the second set, Anna-Jonesboro led most of the way including as late as 21-19 before a late rally found Sparta tying the score at 22, before scoring the next three points for the win.
Sparta was 49-of-50 serving while the hitting attack hit at a .288 clip while the kill percentage was at .394.
Erica Gallois led the hitting attack with 13 kills along with Rachel Peck having nine kills.  Julian Sroka added three kills, while Emma Koester had 19 assists on the night.
“We did such a nice job of cutting back on our unforced hitting errors tonight,” said Sparta coach Roger Gerlach.  “We needed to smooth some things out and we are getting better.”  “AJ was playing shorthanded tonight, but I still thought we stayed focused early to take command of that first set.  The second set pressed us late and we needed to be exposed to figure out how to close out tight matches.”
