After falling behind 7-0 in the first set, Steeleville went on to outscore Elverado 50-18 the rest of the way for a 25-16, 25-9 victory in the Trico 1A volleyball regional semifinals Wednesday night.
"Our senior setter (Jessie Husband) was out for the game with a sprained ankle and freshman Alex Gale made her first varsity start setting and the nerves showed early," said Steeleville coach Amy Brown. "She settled down after that and did a tremendous job. Once this team got rolling, there was no stopping them."
Trailing 7-0 in the opening set, Brown called a timeout to settled her team down and they responded. The Lady Warriors answered with a 10-1 scoring run to take the lead for good 10-8.
Steeleville ended up outscoring Elverado 25-9 after the slow start for the 25-16 first set victory.
Set two was all Steeleville, as the Lady Warriors scored the first 15 points en route to a 25-9 win.
Jessica Troue was dominant in the win finishing with 17 kills, a match record for Steeleville. "Troue was hitting the ball harder tonight than I have ever seen her hit before,"said Brown.
Brooke Rees added 16 points with four aces for Steeleville, while Gale finished with 22 assists and seven points. Jenny Frederking added five kills and Brooke Cates had five points on six serving points with four aces.

With the victory, Steeleville will play in the Trico Regional finals Saturday at 1 p.m.
"It has been eight years since Steeleville has won a volleyball regional," added Brown. "This is my last year coaching and I would like nothing more than to go out with a regional title." Brown said that she will be stepping down from the coaching ranks after this season to concentrate on her family.
Elverado knocked off Zeigler-Royalton 23-25, 25-21, 25-17 in the quarterfinals earlier Wednesday night.
