In straight sets, the Steeleville Lady Warriors topped New Athens to win their volleyball conference opener Wednesday evening 25-15 and 25-18.
“It was great to start out the conference season with a win at home,” said Steeleville coach Amy Brown. “One thing we have to improve on is the level of intensity we bring to the floor. If we would show that and some excitement I think we would come together and play more as a team.”
Jessica Troue led the squad with 11 kills, while Jessie Husband added 14 points with five aces and 18 assists and Brooke Rees had seven points.
Steeleville improved to 2-2 overall with the win and 1-0 in the Cahokia Conference.
