Steeleville claimed round one of their annual bragging rights between long-time rival Trico with a 25-16, 25-18 victory Wednesday night in prep volleyball action.
“Trico is always a tough opponent, but I think our girls really stepped it up tonight,” said Steeleville coach Amy Brown. “This game was for pride and we went out and finished the job. (Jessica) Troue was hitting ball harder than I have ever seen her hit. We played together and didn't get down after we made mistakes. I'm proud of the way we played and can only hope we continue to build on this game.
Troue finished with 13 kills and six blocks to pace the Lady Warriors, while Brooke Rees had 11 points, five kills and five blocks, and Jessie Husband finished with 17 assists.
For Trico, freshman Kaitlyn Phoenix had seven kills, five blocks and 15 digs.
With the win, Steeleville improved to 3-2 overall.
