Nashville laid claim to the SIRR Mississippi volleyball conference crown Thursday night with a win over Sparta at Fulton Gym.
The match at no time was in peril for the Hornettes, as the Lady Bulldogs came out flat and never recovered losing 25-11, 25-9.
“We came out and could never get anything positive going with the way they were hitting on all cylinders,” said Sparta coach Roger Gerlach. “They flat took it to us and played a super match for what was at stake. Certainly we’re disappointed, but we still have some volleyball to play that has plenty of meaning.”
Sparta could only muster 10 kills while only serving a season low of 21 total serves. The Lady Bulldogs only managed to score two consecutive points in the entire match.
Erica Gallois had five kills while Rachel Peck added three. Karli Hanna tossed in two kills for the 10 total during the two set match.
The win closes the conference race with the Hornettes at 9-1 winning the River-to-River crown, as Sparta dropped to 19-8 overall and 6-2 with two remaining conference matches.
Sparta can secure second place with wins over Pinckneyville Tuesday at Fulton Gym on “Senior Night” then at Chester on Thursday.
Sparta will recognize five seniors on Tuesday. Those being recognized will be Erica Gallois, Emma Koester, Rachel Peck, Clarissa Richno, and Kelsey Stefani.
