Du Quoin over
Steeleville 25-20, 25-19
In the regular season finale for both schools, Du Quoin topped Steeleville in straight sets 25-20, 25-19 Thursday.
“I have no explanation of what happened tonight,” said Steeleville coach Amy Brown. “We just couldn’t get anything going on offense because our defense was really off tonight. No matter what, we just couldn't find a way to get the ball into our setter's hands. We had a great regular season, finishing at 19-11. There were some losses that we shouldn’t have had, but hopefully we learned from them and moved on. I was hoping to finish the regular season with a win going into regional week, but it just didn't happen. I am still excited and really looking forward to seeing what we can do in regionals.”
Jessica Troue led the Lady Warriors with nine kills, while Brooke Cates added five points, Jessie Husband had 15 assists, and Jenny Frederking and Brooke Rees each had four kills.
Thanks to Lebanon defeating Valmeyer, Steele-ville finished their conference season as co-champs.
“Being conference champs was a team goal that many of the girls and I had for the season,” said Brown. “I am proud to finish with that accomplishment.”
