Trico over Christopher 25-18, 25-15
Trico remains in first place of the Black Diamond West with a two-set win over Christopher Tuesday night 25-18, 25-15 on the road.
Kristin Myers had eight kills, while Rayanna Moore served up 15 points to lead the Lady Pioneers.
With the win, Trico improved to 15-8 overall and 8-2 in the conference.
Carterville over Sparta 25-12, 18-25, 25-14
Carterville Lady Lions took a bite out of the Lady Bulldogs in volleyball action Tuesday winning a three set match 25-12, 18-25, 25-14.
Sparta hitting woes continued as the evening progressed. The Lady Bulldogs actually had more hitting errors than kills in the three set loss. The Bulldogs had 18 kills while having 19 hitting errors.
“We just never gave ourselves a chance in the first and third set,” said Sparta coach Roger Gerlach. “I really thought that we had turned the corner earlier, however, our inconsistencies in several areas really have showed up at a bad time of the year.”
Gabby Gallois had eight kills while Amber Bleem added four. Victoria Ward added 10 assists.
With the loss Sparta’s record drops to 16-12.
The Chester Regional pairings were recently released with the Lady Bulldogs playing in the 5:30 p.m. Monday, October 24 matchup against Trico with the winner advancing to take on Columbia Tuesday, October 25 again at 5:30 p.m.
Steeleville over Dupo 25-18, 25-18
Steeleville improved to 5-3 in conference play with a two-set win over Dupo Tuesday night 25-18, 25-18.
The Lady Warriors were paced by Allanah Renner, who had four kills, two blocks and two digs. Alex Gale added two kills, 10 service points, an ace and five digs in the win, while Brooke Cates finished with nine digs.
With the win, Steeleville improved to 11-17 overall.
Chester over Zeigler-Royalton 25-20, 25-23
Chester ended a five-game losing streak with a two-set win over Zeigler-Royalton Tuesday in Black Diamond Conference action.
The Lady Yellow Jackets were led by Marah Laramore ( fourkills, two blocks, five points and an ace), Michaelyn Modglin (four kills and two blocks) and Dani Homan (three assists and a kill).
With the win, Chester improved to 6-18 on the season and 4-6 in conference play.
Anna-Jonesboro over Sparta 25-27, 25-18, 25-17
After winning set one, Sparta couldn’t hold off a surging Anna-Jonesboro team in a 25-27, 25-18, 25-17 loss Thursday.
Sparta jumped out to a 6-1 lead in set two before succumbing to the AJ comeback.
Gabby Gallois and Amber Bleem led the hitting attack with eight and seven kills respectively. Victoria Ward and Melissa Renner added 10 and eight assists. Heather Breithaupt graded out to a 1.8 passing marks to lead the defensive side of the net. The Bulldogs served at 93 percent going 57-of-61 from behind the line.
“I was happy with the effort throughout, we just couldn’t keep the momentum after the early lead in set two,” said Sparta coach Roger Gerlach.
Sparta overall record now moves to 16-11 and will travel to Pinckneyville on Thursday.
Valmeyer over Steeleville 25-18, 15-25, 25-15
In a hard fought three set match, Valmeyer defeated Steeleville 25-18, 15-25, 25-15 Thursday.
Sara Potter, Brooke Cates and Natalie Ruebke all had three kills to pace the Lady Warrior attack. Allanah Renner led the team with two blocks, while Justine Knop served up a team-high seven points. Tiffany Cathcart led the team with seven digs, while Cates and Alex Gale each had five in the loss.
Goreville over Chester 25-16, 23-25, 25-22
With a three set loss to Goreville 25-16, 23-25, 25-22 Thursday, Chester falls to 5-18 overall and 3-6 in conference play.
Shelby Long led Chester with 25 digs and nine service points, while Marah Laramore added six blocks and 12 kills in the loss. Raelyn Rosendohl chipped in with a team-high 11 assists.
