In its first home meet of the season, the Sparta track team sprinted to a meet sweep over Du Quoin, Okawville, Steeleville and Gibault last Tuesday, March 23.

The Sparta boys finished with 190 points followed by Du Quoin (137), Steeleville (10) and Gibault (8).

The Dawgs had 14 first place finishes in the meet. Cody Klein won the pole vault and set a new track record with a vault of 15’6”. Other first place finishers included Preston Nance in the high jump (6’2”), Seth Buch in the long jump (20’4”), Wade Reeves in the 3200 meter run (10:16) and the 1600 meter run (4:49), Tyler Bierman in the 110 meter hurdles (16.9) and the 300 meter hurdles (43.4), Maurice Austin in the 100 meter dash (11.4) and the 200 meter dash (23.7), Jon Hill in the 800 meter run (2:12) and Luke Nurnberger in the 400 meter dash (51.7).

The 3200 meter relay team of Trevor Morgan, Hill, Dustin Neff and Michael Hall also took first as did the 400 meter relay team of Buch, Austin, Klein and David Sams.

On the girls side, Sparta racked up 113 points followed by Du Quoin (78), Okawville (43), Steeleville (33) and Gibault (9).

Jackie Robinson won three events to pace a squad that won 11 events in the meet. Robinson won the triple jump (32’11), the long jump (16’3) and the 200 meter dash (28.7).
Aleigh Eggemeyer won the 3200 meter run (12:42) and the 1600 meter run (5:51). Other first place finishers included Rachel Peck in the pole vault (8’), Elizabeth Blair in the shot put (30’1), Melyssa Bradshaw in the 800 meter run) and Megan Cunningham in the 400 meter dash (62.7).
