Chester track teams do well in home opener ... 3/30/10


In its first meet of the season, the Chester track team performed well at home Tuesday.
The Yellow Jackets took first in the girls competition and second in the boys.
The Lady Jackets racked up 165 points followed by Christopher (128), Vienna (89), Red Bud (60), Steeleville (50), Gibault (13) and Shawnee (8).
Chester had five first place finishes as Jordan Clendenin won the pole vault (8’0), Taylor Yankey took first in the 3200 meter run (14:25) and Rachel Young in the 200 meter dash (27.5). The Lady Jackets also won the 800 and 1600 meter relays.
Chester’s depth proved to be the difference as the team piled up 11 second place showings.
Abbie Brundage of Red Bud won the shot put (35’3), while Steeleville notched four first place finishes. Jill Winkelman won the discus (102’6), Natalie Ruebke took first in the 800  (2:45) and 1600 meter runs (6:27) and Rachel Duensing won the 300 meter hurdles (51.5).
On the boys side, Vienna won the team competition with 186 points followed by Chester (171), Gibault (33), Red Bud (30), Steeleville (14) and Shawnee (1).
Chester took first place in nine events and second in three events. The Jackets got first place points from Brad Bindel in the discus (118’8), Wes Cowan in the shot put (45’11), Dan Adams in the long jump (18’1), Landon in the high jump (6’0), Sternberg in the pole vault (8’0), Chad Koenegstein in the 110 meter hurdles (15.5), Jeremy Woodward in the 400 meter dash (58.8) and Valleroy in the 1600 meter run Valleroy.
Dillion Salger took second place for Red Bud in the 3200 meter run (12:05) and Christopher Johnston took third for the Musketeers in the shot put (39’8).
Steeleville was led by Keith Hamilton’s third place finish in the 100 meter dash (12.2) and Reid Wilson’s third place showing in the 3200 meter run (12:06).
