Coach Watson directs a successful return for Sparta flag football league

After a four-year hiatus, the Sparta Junior Bulldogs flag football program wrapped up another successful season Monday night with the championship games under the lights at Pierce Field.
Over 70 area youngsters took part in the five-week league that was under the direction of the high school football coaching staff, with the high school varsity players serving as coaches.
“This is a great way to get the kids handling the football,” said Sparta varsity football coach Phil Watson. “We get the kids on the game field and this is something they really look forward to each week. Hopefully this type of excitement will carry over when they get to high school. The response from the community has been good and this activity is good team building for the kids and for our varsity players.”
The league was open to all students in the Sparta school district who are in grades four through eight.
