The Lady Meteors scored two runs in the first, eight in the third, one in the fourth and five in the fifth for the short game victory.
Trico scored lone runs in the fourth and the fifth innings.

Cassie Ortiz had two hits and a run batted in while Katie Taylor was 2-for-3 and Megan Ehlers was (1-for-2) for the Lady Pioneers.
Anna-Jonesboro 4
Sparta 2
Both teams were tied for second in the River-to-River conference and held slim hopes of catching front runner Pinckneyville, however with the 4-2 loss Monday against Anna-Jonesboro the Lady Bulldogs only can play spoiler with the remaining schedule and a trip to Pinckneyville coming Friday.
Anna-Jonesboro jumped on top in the first inning as Fallon Clayton collected a one-out single and stole second and third base before winning pitcher Lindsey Patterson picked up the two-out RBI single, her first of two hits on the day.
Sparta responded and scratched out two runs to take the lead at 2-1 when Julian Sroka led off the second inning with a single to right field. After a Shannell Roberts pop out, Corrie Opolka delivered a run scoring triple. She would score later in the inning on a passed ball.
The game settled in to a pitchers dual before AJ erupted with a three-run fourth inning behind a leadoff triple down the left field line by Jayde Rendleman. That was followed up with an RBI single that got away from the Sparta left fielder allowing the runner to advance and later score on a single.
The Bulldogs loaded the bases in the seventh for a potential come back on two walks and an infield error only to have the final out recorded on a ground out to shortstop.
“We competed and just didn’t get the timely hit, and they did,” said Sparta coach Roger Gerlach.
Alexis Kohrs took the loss dropping her personal record to 7-3. Opolka and Sroka were multiple hit performers as they were 2-for-3 and 2-for-4 respectively. Taylor Martin had the other hit for the Bulldogs.
The loss drops Sparta’s overall record to 13-3 and 4-3 in league action. The Bulldogs travel to Pinckneyville Friday before hosting the Sparta Invitational Saturday with games starting at 9 a.m.
Sparta 3
Du Quoin 1
Sparta freshman Alexis Kohrs did it all Friday as she led her team to a 3-1 win over Du Quoin to avenge an earlier loss this season to the Tribe.
Kohrs picked up her seventh win of the season in the circle for the Lady Bulldogs and also slammed a two-run home run in the second inning to pace the offense.
Kohrs had three strikeouts to go along with one walk while allowing the single run in the second inning.
“I’m really happy with the way we put together a great week of softball,” commented Sparta coach Roger Gerlach. “The wins earlier this week set this opportunity up and we did a nice job to avenge an earlier in the season loss to a quality team.”
Sparta improved its overall record to 13-2 while its River-to-River record moved up to 4-2.
Trico 7
ZRC 6
Trico rallied to score six runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to beat Zeigler-Royalton-Christopher 7-6 Thursday in Black Diamond West action.
Kaylee Boland led Trico with three hits, two runs batted in and the game winning run scored on a passed ball.
The Lady Pioneers grabbed the early lead scoring one run in the first inning. However, ZRC took control of the game scoring a run in the third, three in the fourth, one in the fifth and one in the sixth for a 6-1 lead.
With the win, Trico improved to 4-8 overall and 1-2 in the conference.
Pinckneyville 9
Anna-Jonesboro 7
Sara Malanowski and Taylor Cicardi both drove in three runs to lead Pinckneyville to a 9-7 decision over Anna-Jonesboro Thursday in SIRR Mississippi league action.
AJ grabbed a quick 2-0 lead with a pair of runs in the top of the third inning. The Lady Panthers answered back with three runs in the fourth and six in the fifth for a commanding 9-2 lead.
That lead would hold up until the seventh when AJ rallied to score five runs.
“We had some clutch hitting by Kortney Crawford, Cicardi, and Malanowski,” said Pinckneyville coach Greg Hale. “Each had multiple RBI hits. However, we need to learn to close out games. We had a 9-2 lead and let AJ get back into the game. We need to learn from this experience. We got good pitching from Cicardi and Emily Chapman. Our defense needs to sure itself up. This was a big win in the conference as it puts AJ with two losses. Sparta also has two losses while Du Quoin and Nashville both have three.”
