Lady Panthers win SI Showcase ... 4/17/10

The Pinckneyville Lady panthers continued their winning ways this weekend by going 3-0 to win the Southern Illinois Showcase. Pinckneyville knocked off Teutopolis, Cumberland and St. Joe Ogden.
“We won six of seven this week with four big games this weekend against out of the area opponents,” said Pinckneyville coach Greg Hale. “The win over St. Joe Ogden was big. They are the second ranked 2A team in the state. We got behind but fought back for the win. I give a lot of credit to our pitching staff as Kelsey Cicardi, Emily Chapman, and Sara Malanowski teamed up in this game. Our offense was constant as it has been all season. However, we need to look at some of the things that we have been doing wrong and get it corrected going into post season.”
In game one of the showcase, Pinckneyville overcame eight errors by cranking out nine runs on 12 hits for a 9-4 win over Cumberland Saturday.
Chapman notched the win giving up four runs on six hits. Sheristy Stanton led the offense going 3-for-4 with three runs batted in. Maddy Keith and Mo Ramsey each drove in two runs in the win.
The Lady Panthers fell behind 5-0 to St. Joe Ogden before rallying to score five runs in the bottom of the fifth and five more in the sixth to escape with a 10-9 victory.
Cicardi earned the win while Ramsey, Taylor Cicardi and Malanowski each drove in two runs to pace the offense.
In the showcase finale, Pinckneyville scored three runs in the top of the first inning and never looked back as the team rolled to a 9-2 win over Teutopolis.
Malanowski picked up the win while Taylor Cicardi went 2-for-4 with a home run and three runs batted in to lead the offense.
Pinckneyville improved to 20-1 on the season with the win.
