Lady Panthers avenge earlier loss against Sparta ... 4/23/10

Pinckneyville avenged its first conference loss of the season with a 13-3 win over Sparta Friday in a key SIRR Mississippi softball battle.
Sparta took a 3-0 lead in the top half of the third inning behind a base-on-balls to Taylor Craig and a dropped third strike to Jade Vaughn.  Jamie Woodworth delivered an RBI double and both Vaughn and Woodworth scored on a Taylor Martin two-out single.
Pinckneyville responded with a 30-minute bottom half of the inning scoring nine runs, with the last four coming on a two-out grand slam by Kortney Crawford.
Later the Lady Panthers added another two runs in the fourth and one in each the fifth and sixth innings finishing off the game early with the run rule.
“We just did not respond very well to adversity today,” said Sparta coach Roger Gerlach. “Sure we did not play very well but we did not control the things we can control and we let this game get ugly.  They are a very good team up and down the line-up and we may match up later in the postseason so hopefully we can learn from this experience.”
