Trico's late rally comes up short against Lady Mules ... 4/13/10

Despite outhitting Fairfield 6-5 Tuesday, the Trico Lady Pioneers’ late rally fell just short as they suffered a 3-2 defeat at home.
The Lady Mules took the early lead by scoring a run in the third inning off a walk, one hit and a sacrifice fly.
Fairfield added two more runs to its total in the fourth as the team capitalized off three hits, a walk and a passed ball to take a 3-0 lead.
Trico got on the scoreboard in the bottom of the sixth scoring two runs on three hits. Mikayla Reid and Katie Taylor got the inning started with back-to-back bunt singles. After a lineout by Courtney Brandon and a groundout by Jennifer McGill, sophomore Kaylee Boland ripped a shot over the centerfielder’s head to score the two runs. Boland, however, was thrown out trying to advance to second base to end the inning.
In the bottom of the seventh, Makayla Hartmann lined a two-out single to left field to get the tying run on base, but the Lady Pioneers couldn’t capitalize as the final out popped out to the shortstop to end the game.
Brandon took the loss for Trico as she threw all seven innings allowing the three runs on five hits while striking out three.
The Lady Pioneer offense was paced by Reid (2-for-2), Brandon (1-for-2) and Boland (1-for-3 with two runs batted in).
With the loss, Trico fell to 3-8 on the season.
