Girls softball roundup - Pinckneyville, Sparta stay unbeaten ... 3/29/11

Sparta 2, Carbondale 1
Sparta improved to 4-0 on the young season with a narrow 2-1 victory over Carbondale Tuesday.
Shanell Roberts delivered a couple of two-out RBIs, one in the third inning then again in the fifth inning as a Carbondale solo home run in the sixth inning accounted for all of the scoring.
Alexis Kohrs picked up the win striking out seven while walking one and hitting two Terrier batters.
The Lady Bulldogs had an early scoring opportunity in the bottom of the second inning with runners at first and second base only to be stranded by two strikeouts to end the inning.
A Corrie Opolka one-out single and stolen base gave Roberts her first RBI opportunity and she delivered one of her two doubles on the day. Later in the fifth inning, Julian Sroka drew a two-out walk and advanced on a pass ball.  Roberts again delivered to give the Lady Bulldogs the 2-0 lead.
The solo home run by the Lady Terriers was the first earned run that the Bulldog pitching staff has allowed to date.
Sparta will travel to take on Trico Thursday.
Marissa-Coulterville 4, Okawville 0
Ashley Lehmen kept Okawville off the scoreboard, while the Marissa-Coulterville offense scored four runs taking advantage of six hits and five errors.
Lehman gave up just four hits, while striking out six in the win.
Camille Bumann led the Lady Meteor attack going 2-for-3 with a run batted in. Corey Pitchford also had two hits and an RBI in the victory.

Sparta 12, Elverado 1
Sparta used a big first inning to roll to a 12-1 victory over Elverado Wednesday.
Several Lady Bulldogs had multiple hit games with Jamie Woodworth leading the way with a 4-for-5 day in the leadoff spot, while Alexis Kohrs not only picked up the win pitching, she delivered with a 3-for-4 day offensively including a home run in the win.
Julian Sroka and Shanell Roberts were each 2-for-4. Corrie Opolka, Katelyn Blount and Katie Hill all added a hit to the total.
“When your leadoff hitter is on base with the frequency that Jamie is getting on base, good things usually happen offensively,” said Sparta coach Roger Gerlach. “I think we need to pay a little more attention to the details.  We are not running the bases as well as I think we can, however,  we are getting to the part of the early schedule that if we don’t do the little things it will prove costly.”
Kohrs had eight strikeouts to go along with two walks and a hit batter to push her personal record to 2-0.  With the win, Sparta improved its record to 3-0.
Trico 10, Murphysboro 2
Freshman hurler Jordan Lodge went the distance striking out 12 to lead Trico past Murphysboro 10-2 Wednesday in prep softball action.
“Jordan did an excellent job on the mound and is adjusting to high school softball very well,” said Trico coach Drew Franklin. “She is starting to settle in and gain confidence with each outing. We are a young team who just needs to get some games in before we can judge where we are at.”
Kaylee Boland provided the offense for the Lady Pioneers going 2-for-4 with a home run and three runs batted in. Lodge also homered to help her own cause, while fellow freshman Kourtney Bunselmeyer was 2-for-3 with three RBIs.
