Columbia hands Lady Panthers first loss of the season ... 4/2/11


The Pinckneyville Lady Panthers were able to rally from an early large deficit in round one its softball tournament over the weekend.But in the championship game, the early hole was too much to overcome in a 10-3 loss to Columbia.
Columbia scored six runs in the bottom of the first inning and added two more in the third for a commanding 8-0 advantage.
The Lady Panthers got on the scoreboard in the fourth, plating three runs to cut the deficit to five.
Columbia rounded out the game’s scoring with two runs in the bottom of the sixth.
Sara Malanowski suffered the loss for Pinckneyville, her team’s first of the season.
Mo Ramsey was 1-for-1 with a triple and a RBI to lead the Lady Panther attack.
Pinckneyville 13, Johnston City 3
Pinckneyville’s Emily Chapman held Johnston City to just three runs en route to a 13-3 five inning decision Saturday in the semifinal game of the tournament.
Sara Malanowski went 2-for-4 with a home run and five runs batted in to pace the Lady Panther attack.
Chapman and Maddy Keith combined to drive in five runs, as Keith had three RBI and Chapman finished with two.
Pinckneyville 8, Fairfield 1
In the early game Saturday, Fairfield was only able to muster two hits as Pinckneyville rolled into the semifinals with an 8-1 victory.
Offensively for the Lady Panthers, Emily Chapman had the hot stick with two home runs and four RBI.
Taylor Cicardi and Shersty Stanton also homered in the win.
Sara Malanowski earned the win on the mound for Pinckneyville.
Pinckneyville 11, Vienna 10
Trailing 9-2, Pinckneyville outscored Vienna  9-1 over the final three and a half innings to pull out an 11-10 win Friday in the opening round of the Pinckneyville Invitational softball tournament.
Mo Ramsey hit a walk-off two-run homer to cap off the Lady Panther rally in the bottom of the seventh inning.
Each team scored two runs in the first inning but Vienna quickly took control of the game by posting four runs in the second and three in the top of the fourth.
Pinckneyville started its rally in the bottom of the fourth scoring four runs. The Lady Panthers added three more runs in the sixth to tie the game up 9-9.
Vienna scored a single run in the top half of the seventh for the 10-9 lead but Ramsey’s heroics was the difference in the one-run decision.
Sara Malanowski, who came in to pitch in relief of Emily Chapman, got the win, her sixth of the season.
Ramsey, a Murray State signee, finished the day going 3-for-5 with a triple, a home run and three runs batted in.
