Rivals Teaming Up to Beat Cancer couldn’t be better named as the fundraising event will pit Steeleville against Trico May 3 in baseball and softball action.
All proceeds from the event will go to the American Cancer Society. The two schools have been busy selling t-shirts for the game as Steeleville will wear pink jerseys for the games and Trico will wear blue.
Votive candles will also be sold during the games and will be lighted on the softball field following the competition.
Trico principal Jackie Smith, who is battling colon cancer, will toss out the ceremonial first pitch along with cancer survivors Jill Coleman and Kathy Troue.
“We have sold almost 400 t-shirts already and the response has been great,” said Steeleville softball coach Valerie Bohnert. “Shirts will be available at the May 1 Steeleville tournament and will also be sold during the games May 3.”
The May 3 games will begin at 4:15 at the Steeleville High School diamonds.
