Sparta 49, Red Bud 36
Austin Peck and Wes Kiner combined to score 24 points to lead Sparta past Red Bud 49-36 Tuesday night in the Sparta 2A Regional.
The Bulldogs led 10-7 after one quarter of play and held a 19-10 halftime advantage.
Sparta pulled away in the third quarter, outscoring the Musketeers 15-9 for a 34-19 lead heading into the final quarter.
Kiner finished with 14 points, while Peck added 10.
Jacob Kueker scored 10 points to pace Red Bud.
With the win, the Dawgs advanced to take on top-seeded Du Quoin Wednesday night in the semifinals. The other semifinal contest pits (2) Pinckneyville against (3) Gibault.
Chester 82, Valmeyer 71
The magic number for Chester Tuesday night was 40.
Senior guard Zach Lochhead exploded for 40 points and the team as a whole went to the foul line 40 times in an 82-71 victory over Valmeyer in the New Athens 1A Regional.
The Jackets trailed 22-20 at the end of the first quarter and 37-32 at the break.
Chester rallied to outscore Valmeyer 28-19 in the third and 22-15 in the fourth for the 11-point decision.
Justin Woodward had 22 points for Chester, while Mike Wuelling led Valmeyer with 28 points.
With the win, Chester advances to the semifinals to take on (2) Steeleville Thursday night.
