The Broncos All-Star team, 12 years old and younger, of the Tri-County Pony League has advanced to the North Zone Tournament this week in Joliet.
The squad advanced by winning the Region Tournament held at Du Quoin, beating Herrin, Du Quoin, West Frankfort, Metropolis, and Jefferson County for the championship.
The Broncos then advanced to the Section Tournament in Harrisburg, placing second, losing twice only to the tournament champion Mt. Vernon. The team beat Harrisburg to reach the finals.
The team is made up of seven Chester boys, including Blake Eggemeyer, Andrew Friess, Luke Hartman, Garret Hoffman, Trevor James, Drew Kordys, and Matthew Smith. The team has one player from Steeleville, Parker Lutz, and five players from Ava. They are Jake Compton, Hank Garver, Trent Koch, Landon Korando, and Hunter Lodge.
The head coach is Jeff Kordys, assisted by Dan Compton and Steve Friess.
The boys started play Wednesday in Joliet and will compete Thursday at 5:30 p.m. and Friday at 2:30. The winner of the tournament advances to the Pony World Series in Monterey, California.
