The Chester American Junior Legion baseball team opened its 2010 season last Tuesday with a pair of wins over Perryville.
In the first game, Chester won easily 10-0, as Dalton Misuraca gave up just one hit in five innings of work.
Chester scored runs in each of the six innings for the short game victory. Chester scored two runs in the first, two in the second, one in the third, two in the fourth, one in the fifth and two in the sixth.
The Chester attack was led by Casey Venable (2-for-3 with a double and an RBI) and Austin Barnhart (1-for-2 with two runs scored). Misuraca finished the game with a double and three runs scored.
In the night cap, Chester edged Perryville 3-2, as the team scored three times in the third to take the lead for good. Perryville scored two runs in the top of the fifth but couldn’t get any closer.
Caleb Arbeiter earned the win for Chester, as he pitched five innings, allowing just one run while striking out 10. He also had a perfect game going through four innings. Offensively, Arbeiter was 1-for-3 with a double and a run scored.
Boyd Miles also scored a run, while Austin Barnhart finished with a run scored and a walk.
Chester improved to 2-0 on the young season.
