Chester golf team shows improvement in loss to Trico

Trico topped Chester by 19-strokes in boys golf action Thursday at the Chester Country Club.
The Pioneers finished with a nine-hole team score of 174, while Chester ended with a 193.
“Today's match against Trico marks a great day for Jacket golf,” said Chester coach Richard DeLeon. “Since I took over in 2007, on only four occasions did a Jacket foursome put together a team score under 200. In fact, after this year’s Chester Invitational, it has been a team goal to set our sights on a sub-200 team score. The boys have been cutting strokes quickly and against Trico today, brought in a team score of 193, the second lowest score in three seasons only to be beaten in last years Nashville Invitational by the Baughman, Barthol, Schroeder, Springer squad. In a week’s time, the Brett Barthol, Jonavan Richelman, Sam Higgerson, and Tommy Pfeiffer combo have cut 54 strokes from their 247 match at Crab Orchard and the boys will only set their sights for even lower scores.”
Barthol set a personal best in competitive match play and tied the lowest score of the day with a 38 for the round with seven pars and two bogeys. Richelman has also set a personal best, dropping strokes on every match for a season low of 47 with two pars and three bogeys. Sam Higgerson brought in a 50 while Tommy Pfeiffer carded a 58 for the second straight match. Newcomer Robert Gonzalez played in his first high school match today and finished with a nine-hole score of 68.
