Local area will be respresented well at girls state track meet ... 5/14/10

The conditions were far from perfect for a track meet Friday but that didn’t slow down over 10 local athletes from qualifying for the high school girls track and field state meet.

Sparta took fifth place as a team with 52 points and qualified for state in six events.

Seniors Jackie Robinson and Aleigh Eggemeyer each qualified for two events as they look to cap off a great prep career at state.

Robinson won the triple jump (34’10.75) and took third in the long jump with a state qualifying mark of 16’6.
Eggemeyer took second in the 3200 meter run (11:50) and third in the 1600 meter run with a qualifying time of (5:26.4).

Rachel Peck cleared 9’0 in the pole vault to win the event, while Elizabeth Blair took third in the shot put with a state qualifying throw of 35’6.5.

Pinckneyville qualified in four events as Samantha Schneider took second in the 400 meter dash, second in the 400 and 800 meter relays, while the 1600 meter relay team ran a qualifying time of 4:16.5.

Steeleville qualified in three events as Rachel Duensing won the 100 meter hurdles (17.1), took second in the 300 meter hurdles (49.6) and Jill Winkelman won the discus (114’6).

Red Bud and Chester will each send one representative to the state meet as Abby Brundage took second in the shot put (36’9.25) for the Lady Musketeers and Devon Hecht claimed second in the triple jump (34’8.75) for the Lady Jackets.

The state meet will be held May 20-22 at O'Brien Stadium at Eastern Illinois University.
