Trico hits its mark at Grand Championships ... 8/7/11


The Trico trap team earned several honors at the AIM Grand Championships held Saturday and Sunday at the World Shooting and Recreational Complex.
AIM, the youth shooting program of the ATA, had more than 1,000 shooters competing over the two days.
Trico’s Chris Winterberg shot a 179 out of 200 to win the sub-junior Class D division.
The Trico sub-junior squad of Hank Garver, Grant Doerner, Brandon Froemling, Hunter Heine and Joseph Robertson finished with a team score of 858, good enough for the Class D title. Garver broke 183 targets out of 200, followed by Doerner 182, Heine 171, Robertson 163 and Froemling 159.
Trico’s other sub-junior team finished with a score of 826, which was good enough for second place in the Class D division. Winterberg led the way with 179, followed by Zachary Sanders 176, Griffin Bradley 166, Jackson Renner 153 and Anthony Wilson 152.
Trico’s junior team of Chase Carruthers, Kolton Pool, Clint Reiman, Gannon Richelman and Lauren Hoyt broke 925 out of the maximum 1,000 targets to take 17th in the Class C division and top honors in the FFA competition. Carruthers finished with an impressive 194 out of 200 to lead the Pioneers while Reiman broke 190, followed by Hoyt 188, Pool 183 and Richelman 170.
Also in the junior Class C division, the Sparta Bird Dawgs had a team score of 900 to finish in 30th place. The squad was led by Ethan Pierce 188, Charles Cunningham 185, Dylan Clinton 181, Michaela Crabtree 177 and Donald Roundtree 169.
The Marissa Meteors varsity Squad 1 finished with a team score of 889, good enough for 33rd place in the junior Class C division. Andrew Feig led the way with a 195, followed by Lloyd Geralds 185, Kyle Jones 181, Wyatt Albert 167 and Tyler Wallin 161.
Marissa’s other squad in junior Class C division finished with a team mark of 865 for 38th place. The squad was paced by Sonni Merlenbach 184, Jonathan Reinhardt 180, Alexander Dietrich 179, Wyatt Ford 175 and Heidi Kaemmerer 147.
In the junior Class D division, the Trico squad of Tyler Reiman, Chris Cotton, Dalton Eilers, Andrew Turner and Levi Gaetz finished with a score of 849 and in fourth place. Gaetz led the squad with a 193 followed by Cotton 178, Eilers 177, Reiman 175 and Turner 126.
Finishing in fifth place with a score of 824 was the Trico squad of Joshua Hunter, Austin Brown, Trenton Fisk, Tad Lee and Trevor Vanausdohl. Vanausdohl shot an 187, followed by Lee 185, Fisk 160, Hunter 158 and Brown 134.
