Trico’s Patrick Heller and Kaytie Taylor and Pinckneyville’s Heather McDaniels have all qualified for the state golf meet.
Heller shot a five-over-par 75 Monday at the Carterville boys golf sectional held at Crab Orchard Golf Club. He was the lone local qualifier on the boys side.
Mt. Carmel won the team sectional title with a 287 followed by Hillsboro (312), Robinson (315), Nashville (316), Olney East Richland (322), Massac County (323), Columbia (326), Greenville (329), Vandalia (330), Benton (333), Marissa-Coulterville (333) and Carterville (346).
Only the top three teams advance to the state match.
The medalist for the sectional was Mt. Carmel’s Wade Thompson, who shot a 69.
Sparta’s Jordan Thompson finished his high school golf career with an 81, while teammate Klayton Coop shot a 90.
For Marissa-Coulterville, Tyler Jones shot a 77 and missed the cut for state by one stroke. Kyle Sinn shot an 82 followed by Brock Waldrup (85), Joel Klimas (89), Matt Ervin (94) and Justin Sinn (105).
The state match will be held October 15 and 16 at the Prairie Vista Golf Course in Bloomington.
At the Breese Central girls golf sectional held Monday at Governor’s Run Golf Course, McDaniels shot an 87 and Taylor finished with a 92 to qualify as individuals to the state match.
Nashville won the team sectional title with a 356 followed by Massac County (373), Freeburg (378), Harrisburg (382), Pinckneyville (395), Columbia (397), Mt. Carmel (410), Anna-Jonesboro (412), Carmi (417), Trico (418), Red Bud (447) and Eldorado (483).
The state match will be held October 15 and 16 at Red Tail Run Golf Course in Decatur.
At the Pinckneyville girls golf regional held last Wednesday at Red Hawk Golf Course, the Lady Panthers took home the team title on their home course.
Pinckneyville finished with a 399 followed by Red Bud (400), Trico (417), Sparta (455), Marissa-Coulterville (493), Steeleville (494) and West Frankfort (496).
Pinckneyville, Red Bud and Trico all advanced to sectional play as teams, while Sparta’s Kendra Kessler (90), Brittany Watt (110) and Kaitlyn Young (121) qualified as individuals along with Stacey Whaley (111) and Morgan Reid (116) of Marissa-Coulterville and Jill Winkelman (112) of Steeleville.
