Pinckneyville suffered its first loss of the Herrin Lady Tiger Holiday Hoops Tournament Tuesday to Vienna 57-41.
“I blame some of our struggles tonight on myself,” said Pinckneyville coach Alan Engelhardt. “I was too stubborn in believing our press would succeed that I put us in a hole, and by the time we switched up, we couldn't come back. We really had no answer for McGinnis inside tonight, and we couldn't put enough pressure on their guards to keep the ball out of her hands. Really, right now we are fighting for consistency. It seems as if we have had a different girl step up each night to help Emily (Miller) with the scoring load, but we need to find some consistency in getting the same girls to play the same way every night out. When we develop some consistency with individual players, we will start to find more consistent results as a team.”
The Lady Panthers fell behind 15-11 in the first quarter and trailed 31-19 at halftime. Vienna went on to outscore Pinckneyville 26-22 in the second half for the 16-point win.
Emily Miller paced the Pinckneyville attack with 18 points.
With the loss, the Lady Panthers dropped to 11-3 overall and 2-1 in the tournament.
