Pinckneyville improved to 2-0 in the Hamilton County tournament with a convincing 70-32 win over Galatia-Thompsonville Tuesday night.
“We did a really nice job of getting out and running, and Emily Miller did a good job hitting teammates ahead for some early easy baskets,” said Pinckneyville coach Alan Engelhardt. “I thought we did a good job in the second half of slowing things down and turning the game into a half court affair to work on some of our set plays. We also did a nice job of spreading out our scoring with four girls getting into double figures. Once again, our defense got much better as the game got going. We are going to give up some easy baskets every now and again because we want to pressure all over the court, but we did a much better job in the middle two quarters of limiting easy looks. We still need to do a lot of improving on the defensive glass, and we can still close out on shooters much better, but we did show some defensive improvement, and improvement is what we are looking for at this point of the season.”
The Lady Panthers ran out to a 28-11 lead in the first quarter and never looked back. At halftime, Pinckneyville held a 48-17 advantage. The Lady Panthers sealed the win by outscoring Galatia-Thompsonville 22-15 in the second half.
Dani Jenkel led the Pinckneyville offense with 15 points, while Miller had 14, Mo Ramsey added 12 and Maddy Keith finished with 10.
