Lady Panthers wrap up Herrin Tournament with 3-2 record ... 12/30/09

Pinckneyville wrapped up play in the Herrin tournament with a 51-37 win over Cobden and a 47-32 loss to Herrin Wednesday.
“I was very proud of how hard we competed in the final day of the tournament,” said Pinckneyville coach Alan Engelhardt. In both games, we faced halftime deficits because we hadn’t scored the ball well in the first half, yet we came out and played exceptionally hard in the third quarter of each game.  In the Cobden, game we really turned up the pressure in the second half and turned tough defense into offense.  In the Herrin game, we battled back to take a 28-27 lead, but it took such an effort to get back into the lead that we really lost our legs after that.  It was nice to see Dani Jenkel step up and take a leadership role in both games, getting vocal with her teammates.”
The Lady Panthers outscored Cobden 16-4 and 19-12 in the second half for the 14-point win.
Emily Miller led the team with 22 points, while Jenkel added 11 and Taylor Cicardi had 10.
Herrin outscore Pinckneyville 14-2 in the fourth quarter to pull away for the 15-point win.
Miller finished with 15 points to pace the Lady Panthers.
Pinckneyville finished tournament play with a 3-2 record and an overall mark of 12-4.
