Lady Panthers use second half rally to top Carterville ... 1/11/10

Pinckneyville outscored Carterville 35-19 in the second half to rally from a halftime deficit to top Carterville 49-37 Monday night.
“The game really turned for us in the third quarter when we had some girls start looking to shoot the basketball,” said Pinckneyville coach Alan Engelhardt. “Lindsey Winter, Cheyanne Conner, and Mo Ramsey all hit threes during a big run that put us on top.  Once we started looking to hit some shots, we were able to start getting to the rim and also get some stick-backs off of misses.  I thought we did a pretty nice job of playing half-court defense again and forced Carterville to work for  most of what they got.  I was really pleased with our effort again.”
The Lady Panthers led 10-7 at the end of the first quarter but trailed 18-14 at halftime.
The second half was all Pinckneyville, as the Lady Panthers outscored Carterville 15-9 in the third and 20-10 in the fourth.
Taylor Cicardi led Pinckneyville with 20 points, while Emily Miller added 11.
“Taylor Cicardi was brilliant tonight with a double-double, putting up 20 points, pulling down 15 rebounds, and tacking on three steals,” said Engelhardt. “She gave us a great effort, hitting the glass and really running the floor well.  Emily Miller also came up big for us with another double-double, putting up 11 points, pulling down 10 rebounds, and adding four assists with no turnovers.”
With the win, Pinckneyville improved to 14-5.
