Lady Panthers improve to 2-0 at Herrin Tournament ... 12/28/09

Pinckneyville improved to 2-0 in the Herrin Tournament with a 46-43 victory over Carterville Monday.
The Lady Panthers led 13-12 at the end of the first quarter and 23-17 at halftime. Carterville outscored Pinckneyville 9-5 in the third, but the Lady Panthers outscored Carterville 18-17 in the fourth to hold on for the win.
“I thought we did a nice job of battling through adversity tonight when things didn't go our way,” said Pinckneyville coach Alan Engelhardt. “Once again, we struggled in the third quarter after playing pretty well defensively in the second quarter.  We still have to do a better job of forcing our tempo on people, but we found a way to grind out a win. Maddy Keith had a very nice game for us, and came up with eight big fourth quarter points, including a five point burst that pushed our lead from one to six.  Lindsey Winter did a really nice job of coming off the bench to score 8 points.  We have ground out a couple of wins to start the tournament; now we need to get out and play our game to have a shot at winning it.”
Emily Miller scored 16 points to pace the Lady Panthers, while Keith finished with 12 in the win.
Pinckneyville improved to 11-2 on the season with the victory.
