Nashville hands Lady Panthers first loss of season ... 12/7/09

Nashville outscored Pinckneyville 16-6 in the fourth quarter to pull away with a 51-30 victory Monday night in a key SIRR Mississippi girsl basketball matchup.
“I thought defensively we played pretty well in the first half,” said Pinckneyville coach Alan Engelhardt. “We did a nice job of disrupting their interior offense. Offensively, I thought we had some good movement, but we just didn’t hit shots.  Nashville is so well-schooled on protecting the rim, that they forced us to the perimeter on offense.  The only part of the game I was disappointed in was the start of the third quarter, where we allowed the game to go from a five-point deficit to 13, in just three possessions.  Other than that three possession stretch, I thought we really competed all night and did some nice things both offensively and defensively.  We just didn’t hit shots, and in the end that forced us into too much gambling to make up the gap.  The big thing for the girls is to not  dwell on this game, because we have another big one on Saturday with Sparta.”
The loss for the Lady Panthers was their first of the season as they drop to 6-1 overall and 0-1 in the conference.
Emily Miller led the Pinckneyville offense with 12 points.
