Carlyle outscored Pinckneyville 18-14 in the fourth quarter to sneak out a 58-55 win Tuesday night in nonconference action.
“In the end, our woes at the free-throw line (15 of 27) and missed layups did us in,” said Pinckneyville coach Alan Engelhardt. “We have to take free points when we get them. On the other hand, 55 points should win us most games. We have to buckle down and do a better job on defense, especially in the half court as we move forward over the next few games. On a positive note, we shared the ball pretty well tonight, especially Emily Miller, who dished out seven assists. We just need to continue to work to get better to find our stride as we begin to head down the stretch.”
The Lady Panthers led 13-9 at the end of the first quarter, but trailed 24-23 at the intermission.
Pinckneyville fought back to claim a 41-40 advantage after three quarters of play.
Miller finished with 21 points to pace Pinckneyville, while Taylor Cicardi added 12 and Mo Ramsey finished with 11.
With the loss, Pinckneyville dropped to 12-5 overall.
