Pinckneyville fell behind 13-2 early in the ball game and fell short in tis comeback attempt, 58-51 to Breese Central Saturday.
“We dug ourselves too big of a hole early in the game, getting down 13-2 in the first three minutes,” said Pinckneyville coach Alan Engelhardt. After the first three minutes, I thought we really played some pretty good basketball, with the exception of a few costly defensive breakdowns. We shared the ball pretty well again, getting some good open looks, and running our offense pretty well. The biggest plus that came out of this game for us was finally trying to compete against someone who was as good as or better than us. Up to this point in the season, we have played pretty hard against teams that we thought we were better than, but not against teams the girls felt they weren’t as good as. Hopefully we have turned the corner mentally a little bit with this game.”
The Lady Panthers trailed 15-10 at the end of the first quarter and 26-23 at the intermission.
Breese Central sealed the win by outscoring Pinckneyville 18-15 in the third and 14-13 in the fourth.
Taylor Cicardi led the Pinckneyville offense with 13 points, while Mo Ramsey had 11 and Emily Miller finished with 10.
