Girls basketball roundup - Lady Warriors win 3-of-5 ... 1/17/12



Steeleville 63, Dupo 23
Steeleville outscored Dupo in every quarter including 36-12 in the first half to run away with a 63-23 victory Tuesday night.
The Lady Warriors led 18-6 at the end of the first quarter and outscored Dupo 27-11 in the second half for the 40-point win.
Alex Gale scored a game-high 16 points to lead Steeleville. Natalie Ruebke and Alana Grimm each had 14 in the win.
Steeleville improved to 8-12 with the victory.
Pinckneyville 40, West Frankfort 35
Pinckneyville fell behind 12-2 in the first quarter but were able to rally for a 40-35 win in the West Frankfort Tournament Tuesday night.
After the tough first quarter, the Lady Panthers outscored West Frankfort 13-6, 15-8 and 10-9 for the five-point win.
“We came away with a much needed win tonight,” said Pinckneyville coach Alan Engelhardt. “We really struggled to open the game.  After West Frankfort scored the first basket of the second quarter, we finished on a 13-4 run, getting three three-pointers to fall and open up the middle. In the second half, we had four different girls hit three-pointers.”
Lindsey Winter led the way for Pinckneyville with 15 points, while Alyssa Hirsch added eight.
With the win, Pinckneyville improved to 12-10 overall and 1-1 in tournament play.
The Lady Panthers play Thursday at West Frankfort Tournament against. Sesser-Valier-Waltonville at 6 p.m.
Steeleville 33, Chester 19
Steeleville picked up its seventh win of the year by knocking off Chester 33-19 Monday night.
The Lady Warriors led 11-4 at the end of the first quarter and 14-8 at halftime.
Steeleville outscored Chester 19-11 in the second half for the 14-point win.
Natalie Ruebke led the Lady Warriors with 12 points, while Alex Gale added 11. Sara Potter chipped in with four points and 11 rebounds.
With the win, Steeleville improved to 7-12 on the season.
Carbondale 73, Sparta 25
Carbondale outscored Sparta in every quarter including 35-6 in the second half to run away with a 73-25 win in the Carbondale Tournament Monday.
The Lady Bulldogs trailed 23-9 at the end of the first quarter and 38-19 at the break.
Jade Vaughn posted 16 points to pace Sparta.
Red Bud 69, Valmeyer 23
Red Bud snapped a three game losing streak with a 69-23 victory over Valmeyer Saturday.
The Lady Musketeers outscored Valmeyer in every quarter including 42-12 in the first half.
Ali Ringering led Red Bud with 21 points. Tori Albert added 13 and Dani Gargac had 10.
Cobden 52, Steeleville 40
Cobden outscored Steeleville 35-20 in the second half to pull out a 52-40 win Saturday in  the Carterville Winter Classic.
Steeleville led 20-17 at the break but couldn’t keep up in the second half.
Natalie Ruebke scored 14 points to lead Steeleville, while Sara Potter added eight and Alex Gale finished with seven.
The Lady Warriors dropped to 6-12 overall with the loss.
Herrin 44, Pinckneyville 37
Herrin outscored Pinckneyville 16-8 in the third quarter and that proved to be the difference in the 44-37 loss for the Lady Panthers Saturday in the West Frankfort Classic.
Pinckneyville led 21-20 at halftime but it was not enough to make up for the disastrous third.
“We played a really good first half, showing some patience on offense and hitting 5-of-8 three-pointers,” said Pinckneyville coach Alan Engelhardt. “Defensively, we did a decent job of keeping Herrin off the glass and held a one point lead. In the third quarter, we let down defensively. We need to figure out how to play for a full 32 minutes to have a chance to win.”
Heather McDaniel led Pinckneyville with 12 points.
Du Quoin 41, Trico 24
Du Quoin outscored Trico in every quarter except for the first including 16-6 in the fourth to run away with a 41-24 victory Saturday.
The Lady Pioneers led 7-6 at the end of the first quarter but trailed 10-9 at halftime.
In the second half, Trico was outscored 31-15.
Jordan Lodge led Trico with nine points.
With the loss, Trico dropped to 9-12 overall.
Steeleville 35, Johnston City 33
Steeleville used a big first half to hold off Johnston City Saturday in the Carterville Winter Classic.
The Lady Warriors led 8-2 at the end of the first quarter and 20-10 at the half.
Steeleville was outscored 12-6 in the third and 11-9 in the fourth but held on for the two-point win.
Natalie Ruebke and Alex Gale each had 12 points to pace Steeleville, while Sara Potter added nine.
Steeleville improved to 6-11 on the season with the win.
Lebanon 51, Marissa-Coulterville 27
Bailey Setzekorn and Kendra Goss combined to score 27 points Thursday night but they were the only two Lady Meteors to score in a 51-27 loss to Lebanon.
The game was tied 6-6 after the first quarter but it was all Lebanon after that.
The Lady Meteors were outscored 19-6, 16-6 and 10-9 the rest of the way for the 24-point loss.
Setzekorn had 20 and Goss finished with seven.
Gibault 47, Sparta 34
Jade Vaughn led all scores with 19 points but it was not enough as Gibault topped Sparta 47-34 Thursday.
The Lady Bulldogs trailed 14-6 at the end of the first quarter and 20-5 at halftime.
Gibault outscored Sparta 27-19 in the second half to cruise to the 13-point win.
Katelyn Blount added nine points in the loss for Sparta.
With the loss, Sparta dropped 2-15 on the season.
Trico 38, Steeleville 33
Trico outscored Steeleville 19-11 in the first half and held off Steeleville  late for a 38-33 win Thursday night.
At the end of the first quarter each team had five points but Trico held a 19-11 halftime advantage.
Steeleville fought back to outscore the Lady Pioneers 8-6 and 14-13 in the second half to fall just short.
Katelyn Thies led Trico with 13 points, while Rebekah Dilday had eight.
Sara Potter and Morgan Lindner each had eight points to pace the Lady Warriors.
Steeleville dropped to 5-11 overall with the loss.
