Du Quoin 39, Pinckneyville 34
A 10-point first half deficit proved too big for Pinckneyville to come back from Tuesday night in a 39-34 loss to Du Quoin.
The Lady Panthers fell behind 13-7 in the first quarter and trailed 23-13 at halftime.
Pinckneyville fought back in the second half, outscoring Du Quoin 9-8 in the third and 12-8 in the fourth.
Katelyn Mayer was the lone Pinckneyville player to reach double figures in scoring with 11.
Carterville 42, Sparta 36
Sparta’s second half rally came up short Tuesday night in a 42-36 loss to Carterville.
The Lady Bulldogs trailed 13-6 at the end of the first quarter and 21-8 at the break. Sparta got back into the game by outscoring Carterville 11-7 in the third and 17-14 in the fourth.
Jade Vaughn led all scorers with 24 points.
Sparta dropped to 1-10 overall and 0-5 in the SIRR Mississippi.
Red Bud 44, Waterloo 28
Ali Ringering scored a game-high 20 points to lead Red Bud past Waterloo 44-28 in nonconference girls basketball action Monday night.
It was the second game between these two teams in the span of three days.
The Lady Musketeers ran out to a 16-6 first quarter lead and held a 25-16 halftime advantage.
Red Bud pulled away in the second half, outscoring Waterloo 11-5 and 8-7 for the 16-point decision.
Red Bud improved to 8-3 overall with the victory.
Red Bud 47, Waterloo 32
Ali Ringering and Tara Hubert combined for 33 points to lead Red Bud past Waterloo 47-32 Saturday in the Gibault Candy Cane tournament.
The Lady Musketeers led 11-10 after one quarter of play and 26-14 at halftime. Waterloo outscored Red Bud 12-6 in the third to cut the deficit to 32-26 heading into the fourth.
Over the final eight minutes of play, Red Bud outscored Waterloo 15-6 to pull away with the 15-point win.
Ringering finished with 17, and Hubert added 16 in the win.
Red Bud wrapped up tournament play with a 2-1 record.
Okawville 54, Pinckneyville 38
Turnovers and a big early deficit proved too much for Pinckneyville to recover from in a 54-38 loss to Okawville Saturday.
“Any time you turn the ball over 27 times against a good opponent, you are going to lose the game,” said Pinckneyville coach Alan Engelhardt. “We were tied 5-5 in the first quarter with 5:15 left to play and only managed one field goal attempt the rest of the quarter. Meanwhile, Okawville was turning our turnovers into points.”
The Lady Panthers trailed 19-5 at the end of the first quarter and 28-15 at halftime.
Okawville outscored the Lady Panthers 26-23 in the second half for the 16-point win.
“Katelyn Mayer had another good game, scoring the ball, hitting for 17 points, as well as pulling down eight rebounds,” said Engelhardt. “Haley Simpson followed her up with eight points and six rebounds.”
Pinckneyville fell to 7-3 overall with the loss.
Trico 49, Sparta 37
Trico ran out to a 17-3 first quarter lead and held off Sparta down the stretch for a 49-37 victory Thursday night.
Sparta fought back to trail just 21-19 at the break.
The Lady Pioneers outscored Sparta 16-8 in the third and 12-10 in the fourth for the 12-point win.
Sparta’s Jade Vaughn led all scorers with 21 points.
Anna-Jonesboro 50, Chester 26
Chester fell to 3-9 on the season after a 50-26 loss to Anna-Jonesboro Thursday.
Chester trailed 12-0 after the first quarter and 29-7 at halftime.
Megan Marcinkowska led the Lady Jackets with nine points, while De'Na Nesbitt added six.
Red Bud 52, Windsor, MO 25
Red Bud led 29-12 in the first quarter and rolled to a 52-25 win over Windsor Wednesday in the Gibault Candy Cane tournament.
Ali Ringering led the Lady Musketeers with 14 points followed by Tori Albert with 12 and Tara Hubert with 10.
