Nashville 57, Pinckneyville 27
Nashville held Pinckneyville to just eight points in the first half and 27 points total in a 57-27 win Tuesday night in girls basketball action.
“In the first quarter, we simply didn't help each other guard, and in turn, we dug ourselves a huge hole,” said Pinckneyville coach Alan Engelhardt. “We did a much better job of guarding in the second quarter, and I thought we did a much better job of moving and passing the ball on offense, but we didn't make our shots when we got good looks.”
The Lady Panthers fell behind 22-5 in the first quarter and trailed 33-8 at halftime.
Katelyn Mayer led Pinckneyville with six points.
Pinckneyville fell to 7-2 overall and 3-1 in the SIRR Mississippi.
Anna-Jonesboro 50, Sparta 39
Anna-Jonesboro outscored Sparta in every quarter en route to a 50-39 victory Tuesday night.
The Lady Bulldogs trailed 15-9 at the end of the first quarter and 25-18 at the break. AJ pulled away in the second half, outscoring Sparta 10-8 and 15-12.
Jade Vaughn led the Lady Bulldogs with 14 points, while Kendra Kessler had 11.
Sesser-Valier 55, Trico 27
Sesser-Valier outscored Trico 34-12 in the second half to pull away for a 55-27 victory in the second half.
The Lady Pioneers fell behind 14-7 in the first quarter and trailed 21-15 at halftime.
Katelyn Thies paced Trico with 14 points, while Jordan Lodge added six.
Steeleville 43, Dupo 22
Steeleville jumped out to a 16-2 lead in the first quarter and rolled to a 43-22 victory over Dupo Monday night.
The Lady Warriors led 28-14 at halftime and outscored Dupo 15-8 in the second half.
Alex Gale paced the Lady Warriors with 14 points, while Natalie Ruebke added 12.
Steeleville improved to 4-6 on the season with the win.
Cahokia 60, Red Bud 52
Cahokia outscored Red Bud in every quarter en route to a 60-52 win in the opening round of the Gibault Candy Cane Tournament.
The Lady Musketeers trailed 8-7 at the end of the first quarter and 25-23 at the break. Cahokia went on to outscore Red Bud 17-14 in the third and 18-15 in the fourth for the eight-point decision.
Tara Hubert paced Red Bud with 19 points, while Ali Ringering added 11 and Tori Albert finished with nine.
Cahokia’s Diamond Suggs led all scorers with 27 points, while her teammate, Teykia Cooper, finished with 21.
ZRC 48, Trico 46
Jordan Lodge and Katelyn This combined for 25 points but it was not enough Monday night as Trico fell to Zeigler-Royalton-Christopher 48-46.
The Lady Pioneers led 16-13 at the end of the first quarter and held a slim 19-18 advantage at the intermission.
ZRC fought back in the third, outscoring the Lady Pioneers 10-6, for a 28-25 lead heading into the fourth.
Trico outscored ZRC 11-10 over the final eight minutes but came up one-point short in the loss.
Lodge finished with 15 points, while Thies added 10.
Metro East Lutheran 57, Marissa-Coulterville 31
Marissa-Coulterville fell behind 28-13 in the first half and couldn’t recover in a 57-31 loss to Metro East Lutheran Monday night.
The Lady Meteors fell behind 16-7 in the first quarter before going down 28-13 at the half. Metro East outscored Marissa-Coulterville 21-8 in the third for a commanding 49-21 lead heading into the final quarter.
Bailey Setzekorn led the Lady Meteors with 13 points and Kendra Goss added 10.
With the loss, Marissa-Coulterville dropped to 5-5 on the season.
Red Bud 57, Wesclin 43
Red Bud’s big three of Ali Ringering, Tara Hubert and Tori Albert combined to score 51 points in a 57-43 victory over Wesclin Thursday night.
The win was the first conference victory for the Lady Musketeers this season.
Ringering led Red Bud with 18 points followed by Hubert with 17 and Albert with 16. Grace Richards added the other six points in the win.
Red Bud was an impressive 19-of-22 from the foul line.
The Lady Musketeers improved to 5-2 overall and 1-2 in the Cahokia Conference Mississippi Division.
Pinckneyville 72, Sparta 29
Pinckneyville jumped out to a double digit lead in the first quarter and never looked back in a 72-29 win over Sparta Thursday night.
“It was good to get all 11 girls into the scoring column,” said Pinckneyville coach Alan Engelhardt. “This was the best job we have done all year of maintaining a consistent effort for an extended period of time. I thought all 11 girls did a good job getting out in transition, which led to success for the entire team. It was also great to see us accumulate 18 assists and really share the ball tonight.”
The Lady Panthers led 19-8 at the end of the first quarter and 38-12 at the break. In the second half, Pinckneyville outscored Sparta 17-43 and 17-13 for the 43-point win.
Katelyn Mayer led Pinckneyville with 16 points, while McDaniel had 12.
Jade Vaughn led Sparta with 11 and Katelyn Blount added 10.
Pinckneyville improved to 7-1 overall and 3-0 in the conference with the win.
Marissa-Coulterville 35, Valmeyer 17
Marissa-Coulterville gave up just six points to Valmeyer in the first half Thursday night in a 35-17 victory.
The Lady Meteors led 21-6 at halftime and outscored the Lady Pirates 14-11 in the second half.
Bailey Setzekorn scored 15 points to lead Marissa-Coulterville, while Kendra Goss added 14.
The Lady Meteors improved to 5-4 overall and 2-1 in conference play.
Sesser-Valier 74, Chester 23
Sesser-Valier sprinted out to a 20-4 lead in the first quarter and never let up in a 74-23 win over Chester Thursday night.
With the loss, the Lady Yellow Jackets fall to 3-7 overall and 1-3 in the Black Diamond.
Megan Marcinkowska led Chester with eight points, while Chelsea Schroeder added five.
Red Bud 57, Gibault 43
Tara Hubert scored a game-high 22 points to lead Red Bud past Gibault 57-43 December 7.
The Lady Musketeers outscored Gibault 28-19 in the second half to pull away for the 14-point win.
Hubert made three three-pointers and was a perfect 8-for-8 from the foul line in the win.
Sophomore Ali Ringering added 10 points, while Tori Albert had eight.
With the win, Red Bud snapped a two-game losing streak and improved to 4-2 on the season.
