After defeating Chester in the opening round, Marissa-Coulterville dropped its next two games to finish fourth at the Dupo Lady Cat Classic. Chester rebounded from that first loss to win its next two games to claim the consolation title.
Metro East Lutheran 54, Marissa-Coulterville 41
Metro East Lutheran outscored Marissa-Coulterville in every quarter en route to a 54-41 win Saturday in the third place game.
The Lady Meteors trailed 9-8 at the end of the first quarter and 23-15 at the half.
In the second half, Metro East Lutheran outscored the Lady Meteors 11-9 and 20-17 for the 13-point decision.
Bailey Setzkorn tossed in 23 points to lead Marissa-Coulterville, while Kendra Goss and Abbie Lehman each finished with eight.
The Lady Meteors dropped to 1-2 on the season with the loss.
Chester 48, New Athens 33
Chester took advantage of a strong first half to knock off New Athens 48-33 Saturday in the consolation finals.
Chester led 13-6 at the end of the first quarter and 28-16 at the intermission.
Chester sealed the win by outscoring New Athens 12-11 in the third and 8-5 in the fourth.
Megan Marcinkowska scored a game-high 14 points to lead Chester. De’Na Nesbitt had nine, Raelyn Rosendohl added eight and Chelsea Schroeder tossed in seven.
Chester finished tournament play with a 2-1 record.
Chester 49, Dupo 9
Chester sprinted out to a 29-6 lead in the first half and never looked back in a convincing 49-9 victory over Dupo Thursday night.
The Lady Jackets went on to outscore Dupo 12-0 in the third to cruise to the 40-point win.
Chelsea Schroeder finished with 11 points to pace Chester, while Megan Marcinkowska had 10.
Breese Central JV 38, Marissa-Coulterville 23
Marissa-Coulterville was held to just 10 points in the first half in a 38-23 loss to Breese Central JV in the tournament semifinals Wednesday.
The Lady Meteors trailed 10-3 at the end of the opening quarter and 19-10 at halftime. Breese Central used an 11-3 run in the third to take a commanding 30-13 advantage into the fourth.
Marissa-Coulterville did outscore Breese Central 10-8 over the final eight minutes but it wasn’t enough.
Bailey Setzekorn led the Lady Meteors with 10 points, while Abbie Lehman added five and Kendra Goss and Ashley Lehman each had four.
