Lady Panthers drop to 0-2 in Herrin Tournament ... 12/27/11

The Pinckneyville Lady Panthers dropped to 0-2 in the Herrin Tournament with losses to Herrin and Vienna.
Herrin 45, Pinckneyville 32
Herrin outscored Pinckneyville 17-8 in the fourth quarter to grab a 45-32 win Tuesday.
“We really struggled to shoot the ball tonight, going 10-for-40 from the field, including 0-for-12 from three-point range,” said Pinckneyville coach Alan Engelhardt. “It is very difficult to win games that way. I thought defensively we did a good enough job until we had to start chasing them in the fourth quarter.”
The Lady Panthers led 11-9 after one quarter of play, but trailed 20-17 at the half.
Katelyn Mayer and Alexis Anderson each had seven in the loss.
Vienna 70, Pinckneyville 46
Vienna outscored Pinckneyville in every quarter including 41-23 in the first half for a 70-46 win Monday in the first round of the Herrin Tournament.
“We emphasized three points before the game,” said Pinckneyville coach Alan Engelhardt. “Eliminate transition baskets, don't give up second chance points and take care of the basketball. We didn't do any of those things. We actually shot the ball pretty well, going 16-of-35 from two-point range and 7-of-15 from three-point, but when you turn the ball over 24 times, it really doesn't matter what percentage you shoot. Katelyn Mayer had another strong game, scoring 14 points and pulling down eight rebounds. Lindsey Winter chipped in five three-pointers for her 15 points.”
Pinckneyville falls to 7-5 overall and 0-1 in tournament play.
