Lady Warriors pick up wins over Chester, Trico and Dupo ... 1/18/11


Steeleville 39, Dupo 22
The Steeleville Lady Warriors picked up their third consecutive win Tuesday night with a 39-22 victory over Dupo.
Steeleville ran out to a 13-2 lead in the first quarter and coasted to the 17-point win.
Natalie Ruebke led the Lady Warriors with 15 points, while Ashley Mines added seven.
With the win, Steeleville improved to 8-9 on the season.
Steeleville 43, Chester 36
Steeleville improved to 7-9 on the season with a 43-36 win over Chester on the road Monday night.
The Lady Warriors jumped out to a 14-8 lead in the first quarter and held a 19-16 halftime advantage.
Chester outscored Steeleville 13-12 in the third to cut the deficit to 31-29 heading into the fourth.
Alex Gale led Steeleville with 14 points, while Jill Winkelman and Natalie Ruebke each had 11 points in the win.
Hilary Best had a game-high 15 points to lead Chester, while Ariel Gales had 10.
With the loss, Chester dropped to 5-10 overall.
Marissa-Coulterville 52, Metro East Lutheran 48
Marissa-Coulterville outscored Metro East Lutheran 21-8 in the fourth quarter to rally for a 52-48 victory Saturday.
The Lady Meteors trailed 10-8 at the end of the first quarter, 23-18 at the break and 40-31 after three quarters of play.
Chelsea Weekley exploded for 28 points and 10 rebounds to lead Marissa-Coulterville, while Camille Bumann added eight points and nine rebounds.
With the win, the Lady Meteors improved to 11-8 on the season and will travel to take on Red Bud Thursday.
Steeleville 47, Pope County 37
Steeleville raced out to a big first half lead and cruised to a 47-37 win over Pope County Saturday afternoon in the Carterville Shootout.
Steeleville led 15-11 at the end of the first quarter and 28-12 at halftime.
Pope County tried to rally in the second half, outscoring Steeleville 12-11 in the third and 13-8 in the fourth. However, it was not enough and Steeleville escaped with the 10-point decision.
Natalie Ruebke finished with 20 points and 12 rebounds to pace the Lady Warriors, while Alex Gale added 12 points and Jill Winkelman had nine points and 10 rebounds.
Steeleville improved to 6-9 on the season. Winkelman was named to the all-tournament team at Carterville.
Du Quoin 62, Trico 42
Du Quoin ran out to a large first half lead and coasted to a 62-42 win over Trico Saturday.
The Lady Pioneers fell behind 19-6 in the first quarter and trailed 40-16 at the break.
Beth Daniels led Trico with 19 points, while Ashley Modglin finished with nine.
Johnston City 39, Steeleville 38
Johnston City outscored Steeleville 5-1 over the final eight minutes to pull out a 39-38 win Saturday morning in the Carterville Shootout.
The game was tied 13-13 at the end of the first quarter, and Steeleville held a slim 26-25 advantage at the break.
The Lady Warriors pushed their lead to three points after outscoring Johnston City 11-9 in the third quarter.
Jill Winkelman led Steeleville with eight points, while Natalie Ruebke and Alex Gale each had seven in the loss.
With the loss, Steeleville dropped to 5-9 on the season.
Lebanon 56, Marissa-Coulterville 44
Lebanon made 7-of-8 free throws down the stretch to pull past Marissa-Coulterville 56-44 Thursday to remain perfect in the Cahokia Conference Kaskaskia Division.
With the game tied at 30-30 at halftime, Lebanon outscored the Lady Meteors 13-6 in the third and 13-8 in the fourth for the 12-point win.
Jacyln Elmore scored 30 points to lead Lebanon.
Chelsea Weekley finished with 25 points and 10 rebounds for Marissa-Coulterville, while Corey Pitchford added nine points.
Steeleville 50, Trico 39
Natalie Ruebke, Alex Gale and Jill Winkelman combined to score 43 points to lead Steeleville past Trico 50-39 Thursday night.
Ruebke finished with a game-high 19 points, while Gale added 13 and Winkelman had 11.
Steeleville led 14-6 at the end of the first quarter and 25-20 at the intermission.
In the second half, the Lady Warriors outscored Trico 11-8 in the third and 14-11 in the fourth for the 11-point decision.
Steeleville improved to 5-8 on the season with the win.
Trico, which was just 4-of-11 from the free throw line, was led by Beth Daniels with 12 points and Jordan Lodge with 10.
Freeburg 62, Red Bud 47
After falling behind 12-8 in the first round, Freeburg rallied to outscore Red Bud 54-35 the rest of the way for a 62-47 win Thursday.
Tara Hubert led the Lady Musketeers with 13 points, while Ali Ringering had 12 and Tori Albert added 11.
