Nashville shuts down Pinckneyville, Sparta tops AJ ... 1/25/11


Nashville 46, Pinckneyville 12
Pinckneyville ran out to an early 7-2 lead, but were held scoreless for the rest of the first half as Nashville rolled to a 46-12 win Tuesday night.
The Lady Panthers were outscored 10-7 in the first quarter, 15-0 in the second, 14-3 in the third and 13-2 in the fourth.
“We jumped out to a 7-2 lead early in the game, but once Nashville took the lead on us, I really thought we quit,” said Pinckneyville coach Alan Engelhardt. “Maddy Keith did a nice job guarding Moeller. I really would have liked to see us compete, and I am really disappointed that we let ourselves get beat this way. Nashville is a good team, but playing like that is unacceptable for us.”
Keith led Pinckneyville with five points.
With the loss, Pinckneyville dropped to 18-6 overall and 4-3 in the SIRR Mississippi Division.
Sparta 60, Anna-Jonesboro 55
Jessica Robinson poured in a game-high 34 points to lead Sparta past Anna-Jonesboro 60-55 Tuesday night in SIRR Mississippi Division girls basketball action.
The Lady Bulldogs trailed 30-27 at halftime but battled back to outscore AJ 14-12 in the third and 19-13 in the fourth for the win.
Marissa-Coulterville 48, Valmeyer 24
Marissa-Coulterville rallied from a one-point halftime deficit to double up Valmeyer 48-24 Monday night in Cahokia Conference Kaskaskia Division action.
The Lady Meteors trailed 9-5 at the end of the first quarter and 14-13 at the break. Marissa-Coulterville completed the comeback by outscoring Valmeyer 18-4 in the third and 17-6 in the fourth.
Chelsea Weekley led the Lady Meteors with 18 points, while Bailey Setzkorn had 11.
Steeleville 55, Dupo 27
Steeleville outscored Dupo in every quarter including 18-5 in the first for a comfortable 55-27 win Monday night.
Jill Winkelman and Natalie Ruebke each scored 14 points to lead the Lady Warriors, while Morgan Lindner had 12.
Steeleville improved to 9-10 on the season with the win.
Red Bud 51, Metro East Lutheran 39
Ali Ringering and Tori Albert combined to score 29 points to lead Red Bud past Metro East Lutheran 51-39 Monday night in nonconference action.
Ringering finished with 16 points, while Albert added 13.
The Lady Musketeers trailed 14-12 after the first quarter but rebounded to outscore their opponents in each of the remaining three quarters.
Anna-Jonesboro 57, Chester 35
Anna-Jonesboro outscored Chester in every quarter including 22-8 in the first for a 57-35 victory Monday night in nonconference action.
The Lady Jackets trailed 37-18 at the half and were outscored 18-15 in the second half for the 22-point defeat.
Jordan Clendenin scored 12 points to lead Chester.
ZRC 38, Trico 20
Trico fell behind 23-9 in the first half and couldn’t recover in a 38-20 loss to ZRC at home Monday night in Black Diamond West girls basketball action.
Freshmen Kourtney Bunselmeyer, Ashley Modglin and sophomore Katelyn Thies all had six points to pace the Lady Pioneers.
Red Bud 53, Steeleville 30
Red Bud outscored Steeleville 24-6 in the second half to pull away for a 53-30 victory Saturday.
The Lady Musketeers held a 29-24 halftime lead before the second half spurt.
Tori Albert scored 14 points to lead Red Bud, while Ali Ringering added 13.
Morgan Lindner scored 13 points to pace Steeleville, while Natalie Ruebke added eight.
With the loss, Steeleville dropped to 8-10 on the season.
Marissa-Coulterville 38, Trico 33
Marissa-Coulterville outscored Trico 23-17 in the second half to pull out a 38-33 win Saturday.
The Lady Pioneers held a slim 10-9 first quarter lead and a 16-15 halftime advantage.
Chelsea Weekley led the Lady Meteors with nine points, while Camille Bumann and Bailey Setzkorn each had eight.
Freshmen Kourtney Bunselmeyer and Jordan Lodge scored 10 points to pace the Lady Pioneers.
Mount Vernon 73, Sparta 38
Even with senior standout Jessica Robinson back in the lineup for the Lady Bulldogs, Sparta fell to Mount Vernon 73-38 Saturday in the Carbondale Girls Invitational.
The Lady Bulldogs were outscored in every quarter including 41-18 in the second half. Robinson finished with 19 points to lead Sparta.
Sesser-Valier 49, Chester 40
Sesser-Valier rallied from a three-point halftime deficit to top Chester 49-40 Saturday in Black Diamond West girls basketball action.
The Lady Jackets trailed 11-6 at the end of the first quarter but held a 24-21 lead at the intermission.
Sesser-Valier completed the comeback by outscoring Chester 15-12 in the third and 13-4 in the fourth.
Shelby Helmers led the Lady Jackets with 12 points, while Jordan Clendenin had eight.
Trico 30, Cobden 26
Trailing by three points heading into the fourth quarter, Trico rallied to outscore Cobden 13-6 for a 30-26 victory Wednesday night.
The Lady Pioneers trailed 6-5 at the end of the first quarter but held a slim 15-12 halftime advantage.
Beth Daniels led Trico with nine points, while Kourtney Bunselmeyer added eight in the win.
The Lady Pioneers improved to 6-14, on the season, with the win.
