Pinckneyville 57, Carterville 34
Pinckneyville improved to 7-4 overall and 3-2 with a 57-34 victory over Carterville Monday night in SIRR Mississippi Division girls basketball action.
The Lady Panthers outscored Carterville in every quarter en route to the 23-point decision.
“It was good to see us get out and defend without fouling,” said Pinckneyville coach Alan Engelhardt. “We had our best game in terms of contesting the passing lanes and getting deflections. Offensively, we did a great job of playing through the post and getting post scores or points off of cuts from post feeds. Taylor Cicardi had the big night, scoring 22, but she also found the open cutters for scores of their own. You almost hate to go into Christmas break right now, because we are just starting to find our groove. Hopefully we can have some good practices and get ready for the Herrin Tournament.”
Waterloo 63, Red Bud 39
Red Bud made under 20 percent of its shots Monday in a 63-39 loss to Waterloo.
The Lady Musketeers were 9-of-47 from the field and just 3-of-17 from three-point range in the 24-point loss.
Ali Ringering led Red Bud with 22 points, while Tara Hubert added 16.
Red Bud dropped to 6-6 on the season.
Pinckneyville 59, Okawville 42
Maddy Keith went off for 26 points to lead Pinckneyville past Okawville 59-42 Saturday.
With the game tied at 9-9 at the end of the first quarter, the Lady went on to outscore their opponents 17-12 in the second, 18-11 in the third and 15-10 in the fourth for the 17-point decision.
“I thought we got out and defended pretty well for the second straight game, so that is a positive sign,” said Pinckneyville coach Alan Engelhardt. “Our effort was tremendous. If Okawville was able to break our press, we did a great job of sprinting back and not just conceding points. Our interior passing was very good, and we gathered and finished around the rim. Maddy Keith was very good tonight, scoring 26 points and pulling down 13 rebounds, and Taylor Cicardi and Dani Jenkel were both very solid in the post adding 14 and 9 points respectively.”
With the win, Pinckneyville improved to 6-4 on the season.
