Special teams play turned out to be the difference as Breese Central knocked off Pinckneyville 21-6 Friday night in Breese.
Central took the early lead scoring a one-yard touchdown late inthe first quarter to go up 7-0.
Pinckneyville looked to tie the game late in the second quarter as Bryant Shute connected with Adam Barczewski for an 18-yard touchdown pass. However, the two-point conversion failed and the Panthers trailed 7-6 with 38 seconds remaining in the first half.
A 78-yard kickoff return by Central took the air out of the Pinckneyville baloon, as the Cougars led 14-6 at halftime.
Breese Central added another touchdown late in the third quarter to finish the regular season at 7-2.
Shute led the Pinckneyville offense with 91 yards rushing and 45 yards passing. The Panthers finished their season at 2-7.
