For the second consecutive week, the Chester football Yellow Jackets were involved in a 7-0 defensive struggle. However, this time Chester found themselves on the wrong end of the shutout, as they fell 7-0 to Anna-Jonesboro Friday night at “The Pit.”
The game’s only score came from Anna-Jonesboro’s opening drive, as the Wildcats marched the ball down the field 56 yards on 11 plays as Jordan Chamness scored from four yards.
The Anna-Jonesboro defense did the rest as it held Chester to just 105 yards of total offense and came up big several times in the red zone. The Yellow Jackets finished the game with just five first downs.
The Wildcats finished with 243 yards of total offense with 218 of that coming from the ground.
For Chester, Tim Sullins led the rushing attack with 41 yards, while Isaac McMullin added 39.
Zach Lochhead was 2 of 9 passing for 15 yards with two interceptions.
Jake Rock led the Chester defense with six solo tackles and five assists, while Danny Roth added six solo tackles and three assists.
With the loss, Chester fell to 5-2 on the season and 2-2 in the Mississippi Division.
Chester will host Pinckneyville (2-5) Friday night in their final SIRR Mississippi conference game.
