Anna-Jonesboro ran out to a 37-0 lead in the first half en route to a 57-12 win over Sparta Friday night.
The Wildcats scored three touchdowns in the first quarter and added a safety and two more touchdowns in the second for the early advantage.
“Anna-Jonesboro is a very good team,” said Sparta coach Edmund Jones. “Their quarterback knows how to execute their system and they have talented players at almost every position. Early in the Game they really dominated us.”
Darius Jackson got Sparta on the scoreboard in the third quarter as he picked up a fumble and outran AJ for a 40-yard return for a touchdown.
Anna-Jonesboro answered back with two touchdowns in the third quarter, a 23-yard scoring run and a 53-yard touchdown pass.
Jackson broke loose on a 67-yard touchdown run late in the third to round out the scoring for the Bulldogs.
Anna-Jonesboro finished the game’s scoring with a two-yard touchdown run in the fourth.
The Wildcats finished the game with 458 yards of total offense, 214 from the rushing attack and 244 yards passing.
Jackson finished with 102 yards rushing on 22 attempts, while Devante Garrett added 83 yards on 15 carries.
“At times, we were able to move the ball but we have to find more consistency,” added Jones. “We are playing a lot of young kids and you can definitely see their spirit and enthusiasm, there is room for optimism for this program’s future.”
Sparta fell to 0-6 on the season and will host Carterville (2-4) Friday night.
