Vienna scored 20 unanswered points in the fourth quarter to surprise Chester 33-14 Friday night in the season and conference opener for both teams.
The Yellow Jackets started the game on the right foot scoring on their first drive of the game. Joel Clendenin got the scoring started with a three-yard touchdown run. Austin Redeker added the extra point and Chester held a 7-0 lead with 6:14 left in the first quarter.
Vienna answered back on its first drive of the game that was capped off by a six-yard touchdown run by Ryan Brown. Vienna added extra point to tie the game at 7-7. That score would hold up till the second half.
The Eagles claimed the lead with a 42-yard touchdown run by Geoff Kramp. with 4:10 remaining in the third quarter.
Chester reclaimed the lead late in the quarter when quarterback Jake Cowan hooked up with Caleb Arbeiter for an 18-yard touchdown pass. Redeker added the extra point to hand Chester the slim 14-13 lead.
The fourth quarter was all Vienna, as the Eagles exploded for 20 points to cruise to the win.
On the first play of the fourth quarter, Patrick Gray gave Vienna the lead for good with a 64-yard touchdown run.
Vienna added two more touchdown runs to put the game away.
Overall, the Eagles gained 332 yards of total offense with 290 coming from the rushing attack.
Chester finished with 228 yards of total offense, 103 on the ground and 125 passing.
Clendenin led the Yellow Jackets with 10 carries for 46 yards. Cowan was 10-for-17 passing for 125 yards with two interceptions. Stephen Roth had five receptions for 55 yards, Arbeiter finished with three catches for 50 yards.
Chester travels to take on Sesser-Valier (0-1) Friday night in another key conference matchup.
