The Red Bud Musketeers wrapped up the regular season with an 8-1 record and received the number four seed in the Class 2A south quadrant.
The Musketeers will have their hands full in the first round as they host the number five seed the Staunton Bulldogs (8-1).
“Staunton was 9-0 last year and this year, their only loss was to a very good team (Virden North Mac),” said Red Bud coach Dave Lucht. “They have a little bigger team than us, but I think we have the speed advantage. They are a heck of a handful for a first round game.”
The Bulldogs feature a power running attack behind a big strong running back.
“Our biggest challenge will be stopping the run,” added Lucht. “We just have to continue to improve and minimize our mistakes. Hopefully, we can stay healthy and play our game and not panic if we fall behind.”
The game is set for Saturday at 1 p.m. at Red Bud High School.
